Experiment Report!

The Function
Xylem Tissue in Plant

Objective :

Student are able : Identifying xylem tissue in plant

Device and Materials :

1. Beaker
2. Colored solution
3. Stem of celery
4. Syrup

Work Procudering :

Step 1 : Place a celery stem, with its leaves infact in a beaker of colored water as in figure
Step 2 : Place a second stem of about the same weight, but with all it’s leaves removes, in another beaker of colored water.
Step 3 : After 20 minutes, remove both stalks and cut the stems at regular intervals to see how far the colored had risen.
Experiment :
The experiment process

The condition of the stem after 20 minutes experiment

The Result of Experiment :
The experiment is failed.
The reasons are :
-       The celery stem can’t absorb the liquid from the beaker.
-       Every plants have different condition of xylem, and the syrup molecule have different compositions.
-       The experiment time should be more than 20 minutes for getting the best result
-       The diameter stem of celery is too small, so we cannot see the absorption process there.

Conclusion :
The experiment is failed, and it doesn’t prove the theory of transpiration – pull by Dixon and Joly. There are many reasons why it is not the same with the theory.
